XIV. Transport

What happened

At Lublin at least 36 men were taken off the train and registered in the Majdanek concentration camp (28 of them known by name); the others were presumably taken on to the Sobibór extermination camp and murdered.

Notes on the sources

Date disputed: Gottwaldt/Schulle (Bundesarchiv, berlin.de), Gleis 17, Gleis 69 e.V. and Yad Vashem (in its entry on the 16th transport; it has no entry for this one) date this transport to 13 June 1942 (arrival Sobibór 15 June). statistik-des-holocaust.de shows from Oberfinanzpräsident files that it left on 2 June 1942: a Gestapo Potsdam letter of 8 June 1942 refers to 35 Jews "am 2.6.1942 nach dem Generalgouvernement" deported with it, and the "13.6.42" note derives from the date of a covering letter. 2 June is recorded as best supported by documents; arrival date left null. Count: Berlin Gestapo list 758 names, 12 deleted = 746 (Gleis 17 plate also 746); with 35 from Potsdam (incl. children of the Beelitz home and their director Sally Bein) the train totalled 781. Gottwaldt/Schulle "748/1030". Destination: statistik-des-holocaust.de "Majdanek/Sobibor", Gottwaldt/Schulle "Sobibór", Gleis 17 "unbekannt". Numbering: berlin.de and Gleis 69 call it the 15th transport ("14. Welle"); statistik-des-holocaust.de lists no "XV. Transport" and places the 5 June 1942 "Sondertransport" to Theresienstadt between XIV and XVI. Station: Gleis 69 e.V. lists this train among those that left from Güterbahnhof Moabit; no other source consulted names a station, and Gleis 69 notes that the exact date of the switch from Grunewald to Moabit is not documented.
