Notes on the sources

Berlin designation in the deportation lists: "4. großer Alterstransport" (statistik-des-holocaust.de); Theresienstadt registration number I/90. Deportee counts differ: Gedenkbuch 1342/1285; statistik-des-holocaust.de 1342; holocaust.cz transport list 1342; holocaust.cz victim-database records 1286; Yad Vashem 1342. Recorded here: 1342. Survivors: holocaust.cz: 221 survivors among 1286 recorded deportees; Rita Meyhöfer (cited by Yad Vashem): 170 known survivors. The 1342 registered in Theresienstadt include about 224 Jews from outside Berlin (e.g. Leipzig, Braunschweig, Hannover/Ahlem, Frankfurt am Main, East Prussia, Trier, West Prussia, Danzig); the Berlin Gestapo list names 1159 deportees including non-Berliners and 1118 Berliners (statistik-des-holocaust.de); Gottwaldt (cited by Yad Vashem) counts 1164 Jews from Berlin. The Gedenkbuch gives 1342/1285. Station: Gleis 69 (after Gottwaldt/Schulle) lists this transport as departing from Güterbahnhof Moabit; Yad Vashem says it "likely" left from Moabit/Putlitzstraße but that one testimony places it at Bahnhof Grunewald. The two survivor figures differ substantially; the holocaust.cz figure (based on individual records) is recorded. Editorial decision: this site counts the people on the Berlin Gestapo list (1159, matching the Gleis 17 plate "1160 Juden"), as for the "Osttransporte"; the 1342 registered in Theresienstadt include about 224 people from outside Berlin who joined the train. The survivor figures (holocaust.cz 221 of 1286 recorded; Meyhöfer 170) refer to the whole train and are therefore not shown as a Berlin figure.
