What happened

Jews from East Prussia were added at Insterburg. At Riga about 80 men were selected for forced labour; the others were shot in the forests near Riga shortly after arrival.

Date disputed: statistik-des-holocaust.de documents 31 August 1942 (Reichsvereinigung letters: "am 31.8.1942 mit dem 19. Osttransport ... abgewandert"); the Bundesarchiv chronology also gives 31 August (arrival 3 Sept). Yad Vashem, berlin.de and Gleis 17 give 5 September 1942 (arrival 8 Sept), which statistik-des-holocaust.de identifies as the date of the Gestapo covering letter. Count: Berlin list 801 names, 11 deleted = 790; with 163 from the Königsberg district the train totalled about 953 (statistik-des-holocaust.de). Gottwaldt/Schulle "Berlin-Insterburg 797"; berlin.de 796; Yad Vashem "up to 804" plus 250 from East Prussia; Gleis 17 790. Survivors: Wolfgang Scheffler (2002) 6, via Yad Vashem. Station: Yad Vashem, berlin.de and Gleis 69 give Moabit.
