What happened

Taken as "hostages" after the arson attack of 18 May 1942 on the propaganda exhibition "Das Sowjetparadies"; all 154 were shot at "Station Z" in Sachsenhausen on the morning of 29 May 1942, after 96 Jewish prisoners already in the camp had been killed, probably on the evening before.

Notes on the sources

Morsch states that the Berlin hostages were taken to Sachsenhausen in two transports on 28 and 29 May 1942, 404 people in total; the second brought 250 people, and the 154 Berlin Jews shot on 29 May came from the first. The figure of 154 is therefore the first transport as described by Morsch; statistik-des-holocaust.de likewise counts 154 people arrested in Berlin among the 250 shot. How they were taken there (rail or road) is not stated, so station is "unknown". This was a hostage transport, not one of the numbered "Osttransporte".
